Well, I got my first doll a couple of months ago. I got Emma who is only 2' tall,(first time buyer so went cheap LOL!), and I was surprised. She was everything 'advertised' but, small as she is, weighs a ton! only two feet tall but weighs over ten pounds. Since I have no experience with doll's I thought she would be good for a start, then go to a larger size. I live alone so have no problem 'keeping her out of sight' but, you would think they could make a doll a little lighter. Maybe it's just me and I'm not used to moving 'dead weight. I would love to know the 'engineering' that goes into this as I personally would use Aluminum frames/skeleton and maybe light foam interior with the TPE exterior. I definitely will get a larger doll but would like opinion's/suggestion's and any advice you all have to give on how you 'manage' the weight problem. Or, is it even a problem for you?

Congrats on your first doll! I have the Juno 156cm and she weighs around 75lbs. She’s very heavy, but over time I’ve gotten used to her weight, to where I can now move her around fairly easily. A few tips I would give tho:
Don’t get discouraged if your doll feels really heavy right now, especially if it’s your first doll and you’re not used to the weight. Take it easy and don’t hurt yourself or your doll.
I found that bear hugging my girl, Boxer, from behind and lifting her up via the waist is easier for me, but only for short distance moving, like adjusting her on the bed. I don’t recommend doing this to move your doll too far tho, because the legs and feet can drag and you can end up tearing them up, especially on hard floors.
It’s easier to lift up these dolls when you have them kinda sitting up, so that you can carry them bridal style. I usually put one arm around Boxer’s back and the other underneath her knees, pulling her close to me and slowly lifting up. I usually do this when I’m moving her off the bed and onto the computer chair for temporary placement.
Speaking of chairs, for much heavier dolls, I recommend getting a wheelchair or a moving computer chair, because it makes it easier to move your doll around the house without having to carry her. Be mindful of the feet when she’s in a chair tho. I made the mistake of having Boxer’s feet touch the floor and they got scuffed up a bit.
Hope these tips help!
yes, they are heavier than expected. If getting a taller doll Think first if you can carry a 50 lbs or more doll. It will be a struggle to move her.

Now even the doll market as grown so much. You can order lifelike dolls from https://www.masterpapers.com/assignment in less than you would spend on a computer these days. I was shocked to see a human being sold for $100 till I realized its a doll.
The Anna Doll is pretty awesome, really. I prefer the 135cm Size, vs the 125cm size, because She comes with Standing Feet. This feature is pretty helpful, when repositioning her, or moving her around... Might be worth considering.
First allow me to congratulate you on your first doll, I also own an Emma and she is the cutest!
As for the weight issue, there are companies that already use different materials for the dolls skeleton/frame and foam as a filler under the TPE or even plastic components under the TPE in the shape of bone structures not only to lower weight but for realism, however this increases the cost of production quite a bit and the dolls I have personally seen with these features cost well over $2000, the technology/technic will probably trickle down to other dolls over time but will probably take a long time.
The most efficient way to tackle your dilemma is probably by approaching it from the opposite angle, you can look at it as simple ratios, meaning the power to weight ratio, were you consider your amount of power to handle a certain amount of doll's weight, so let's assume that you find 10lbs (moderate/heavy) but could handle up to 15lbs (heavy) and maxed out at 20lbs (very heavy) considering that most medium dolls weight over 40lbs and large dolls over 60lbs you can see how you ration compares, also let's assume you are thinking of getting a medium doll like a 125cm Anna at 40lbs, then in order to handle the weight of the doll requires for your ratio to change and since the weight of the doll is a "constant" then your power needs to be modified, multiplying your power by 2 would bring your maxed ratio within reasonable tolerance, yes I know it sounds like a facepalm but sometimes the simplest solutions are the best, and here are a few variables in your favor although the act as one: leverage, torque multiplication, inertia and hypertrophy.
Doll's weight seems to be one of the top issues that dolls owners have to confront specially when handling dead weight so most of us weather knowingly or not we apply simple physics, you hold, push, pull, roll, pivot and lift in the most efficient manner at the most efficient point in the most efficient trajectory with the most efficient motion, when all of these are applied at once it can completely change the power to weigh ratio in your favor, also as you perform the task repeatedly your power potential will increase tilting the ratio in your favor furthermore, over time of course.
The only way you will get to experience this is by handling a larger doll, and many of us faced this issue once we open the box and tried to pull our dolls out, it is part of the experience, while it can feel annoying at times it can also bring some benefits, all this is assuming that you are an average human, if you decide to upgrade you may want to consider Beth, Isabella or Anna (125)
Just my humble opinion.
