    Loose Leg

    in General Discussions

When I first got the doll I noticed the right leg was really creaky as if it was over tightened, I paid no attention to it assuming it would be okay. Well, just now I find out her leg is apparently lose all of a sudden, it still moves side to side just fine but she cant't keep the leg up anymore. I doubt anything is broken, the joint just came loose. Anyone else ever had this problem?

Yes on a 163cm BBW both hips detached in two days , 1st one then other.

Look a diagram of skeletons in this forum & notice the " welded " upper leg that joins to the T frame of the hips from the spine.

Those welded upper legs are what breaks as far as I can see since I opened her up from the lower back.

I'll take a pic this week , maybe there's someone on this forum who knows about this , but I'm going to check around.

Sorry Vigil, I don’t have any experience welding a skeleton back together while inside a doll.

Dont know what else could take that amount of torque

@Fantastic Plastic well at least we can learn more about the skeleton when I get the pics up...if there was just a way to reclamp them in with some hardware device.

Looks like an advanced job if at all even possible. Can barely pull the hips bones up an inch , when they have about a half a foot to be pulled up to meet the T - Frame.

I’m pretty certain that part of the hip is able to be externally tightened.

I had to do this to a Racyme 140 on both her hips.

    FOR REFERENCE ONLY:

Smooth finish 17mm box end wrench coated in Vaseline.

Feel around for the nut at the rotation point, (It will usually be on the inside) then using a punch or awl, starting from the inside of the groin, punch a pin hole through to the outside face of the nut.

Push the wrench through the pinhole and wrestle it onto the nut.

This will be a fight to get through the cloth tape if it has any there, but this method (my exclusive one!) will leave the least amount of scaring.

Tap wrench in the tightening direction with a hammer until you reach the desired tension. Don’t make it too tight!

For extra measure to prevent it from backing off, apply some Loctite 680 retaining compound with a syringe.

(This can be applied to the nut in a loosened condition to help facilitate it getting into the threads.)

Test joint after a few hours to let the Loctite to set.

If all is good, clean holes thoroughly and apply some TPE glue into the holes with the areas in a completely relaxed state and let dry.

AGAIN, THIS WAS PREFORMED ON A RACYME DOLL!

I have yet to tighten a hip on this make.

However I have done a tightening on a shoulder joint that came loose on a 143, but that was a completely different story.

This may be a crap ton of info for this, but I’m a self proclaimed doll pro, and this is how it’s done as far as I’m concerned.

    hope this helps.

Very detailed, not sure if im up for that task as of yet. I'll continue to do some research and hopefully, figure out what the MLD Doll's skeleton's look like for an idea.

I haven't had this problem with the hip joint yet, my first MLD doll, whick is pretty close to a year and a half old does have a loose knee, but it just now to the point to where I'll have to do surgery.

Yeah, I've had the same issue. Still has full range of motion but the hip joint is super loose for front to back (kicking motion). No idea whats going on though.
